Engagement: Ben and Erica

Last Wednesday I had the great honor of filming my good friend Ben Collins' engagement. He picked an amazing location up on the bluffs above Cayucos, CA. I have been asking him when he was thinking about dropping the knee and he had never really gave me a sure answer and vaguely said, "Maybe this summer." So when he gave me the heads up about a week prior to the engagement, I was very stoked! It was such a blessing to witness this and and I hope you enjoy this amazing moment they experienced.

We had the pleasure of being able to shoot this very small wedding up at Big Sur last week with Cameron Ingalls. Mark and Katie were so easy going and in love with each other. Big Sur is one of the most beautiful places on earth, so fitting that they chose to get married up there at the Henry Miller Memorial Library.

Here are a few shots Mr. Cameron Ingalls took! Enjoy!

Engagement: Joel and Morgan

Wow. What can I say about Joel and Morgan? I have had the pleasure to hang out with them this past week, Ben and I both fell in love with them. We got to hear their whole love story and found out that Joel actually proposed to Morgan with this song, he wrote for her. Joel is an amazing man, and a humble artist, so we tried to make this movie into an amazing art piece. Processed to look like 16mm film, this movie feels almost like you have a window into their love story. Enjoy.

Engagement: Ben and Nichole from Ben Potter & Drew Barefoot on Vimeo.

Drew my beloved business partner made this beautiful movie of Nichole and my engagement that happened on New Year's Eve. Drew's wife Anicia made all the decorations and set up the site for us earlier that afternoon. She is incredible with what she came up with! Our good friend Cameron Ingalls shot a few photos for us as well! We are so blessed to have such amazing friends. It was a true blessing to have them all be apart of one of the most important moments in our life.

I hope you enjoy this short movie of our engagement and the pictures Cameron Ingalls took of the evening.

Preview: Weston and Michelle

Hello Friends!

This was our last wedding of the year and we were so blessed by this one! Weston and Michelle were completely naturally in love and were super fun to shoot.

I picked up a bit of a virus in my left eye, so I ended up having to wear an eye patch the whole wedding. I think the movie still turned out pretty darn good... you will have to see for yourself. Drew took some video on the way to the wedding. This still speaks more than only a shot in transit, but more so a video production company that is looking off in to the sunset, into next year, with high standards, new ideas, and desires to make the best wedding movie in the world. Sounds ambitious I know, but this is our life.

Drew and myself have had an amazing season and we are very thankful for all the work we have been given. We are already really excited for what we have planned for next year, new locations, countries, and beyond.

Hope you enjoy this movie!

Adam Pasion wrote and produced our amazing music for us. Thank you Adam.

We shot this wedding with a 50mm, 85mm and a 12-24mm. I think we will be adding to the lens quiver shortly.

Engagement: Sam + Anna

This is very special movie for me. My baby brother Sam is now engaged! This all went down a few weeks ago up by Hearst Castle, CA.

We weren't really planning on shooting after the actual engagement, but I couldn't hold back.

I asked Drew to write a little something for this movie and he once again killed it.

I hope you enjoy these two and the love that God has created. Enjoy

Preview: Damion and Emily

Last weekend we were having killer time at Dancing Horse Ranch in Paso Robles. Drew and myself had the pleasure of filming for Damion and Emily at this beautiful venue full of huge oaks and open pastures. Although I thought I might pass out with the heat we seemed to still pull it off without any casualties. We almost lost our fish eye lens while shooting in a field full of horses. So I set a lens down for second to grab some other shots with my beloved lens of choice only to look over my shoulder to see a giant horse about to do its business on my lens. Not a good situation, so I ran to rescue and grabbed the lens from its death before Drew could see what happened and break off the partnership. Anyway we had a ton of fun and made this little flick to show that night. Enjoy.

Last Saturday we had a good ol time down in LA for our first traditional Chinese Wedding! Johnny and Cicilia were so much fun and scoped out some sweet spots for us to shoot. At one location I tried to get the local police authority to help us out with a shot, but he said "Absolutely not!". Bummer. So our next option was to try to get a crane shot out in the middle of the street of downtown LA. It worked out pretty good.

Thanks to Seth Roberts for writing another amazing track for us! You should check out his band, Lakes!

This movie is made up of our shoot we did before the actual wedding. Enjoy!

Last weekend we had a good ol time shooting a movie with David and Sophie from Southern California. We shot all of this movie in Paso Robles and ended up at Castoro Winery for the Ceremony and Reception.

David and Sophie were super energetic and stoked for their day. Their son Max was super fun to capture too! We had some amazing lighting to work with after the reception and I hope you enjoy the flairs as much as we did.

I owe Seth Roberts a big hug for making this amazing track for us and the more we think about it, I think we will be looking into putting an "2009 Season Album" out. Ya we are kinda excited for this idea!

Well I hope you enjoy this movie!

Preview: Dave and Rachel

Preview: Dave & Rachel from Ben Potter & Drew Barefoot on Vimeo.

Wow this wedding was a gift from God! Drew and myself had the pleasure of traveling over to Kansas City for an amazing wedding this last Friday.

Dave and Rachel are wonderfully in love and we had the joy of capturing that love.

We arrived Thursday afternoon in Kansas City and met Matt Feyaerabend who owns Aus10 Photography. Matt and his wife Meghan were so hospitable and fun to hang with throughout the weekend. Even when we encountered some pretty restrictive filming and photography rules at the church the ceremony would be held at, Matt fought hard for both of us to be allowed to get the angles and shots we needed. Overall it was a blessing to spend this time with them!

There was something about this whole wedding where I could sense the love of God in this couple. It was almost like a presence you could feel. For example when they first saw each other before the ceremony started Rachel came walking up behind Dave with this huge smile on her face and once Dave turned around he began to get teary eyed. It as amazing to see both of these two so excited to see each other as they both were trying so hard not to cry.

It was as if the emotion never died throughout the whole afternoon and evening.

When arrived to the moment to show the Preview Movie. I as a bit nervous as a crowd began to gather around the screen. I think I was nervous because I knew that this was going to be an emotional movie for everyone. The movie rolled and I watched Dave and Rachel as they watched it trying to read their emotions. They smiled, laughed, and cried. It went great! After the movie they gave me and drew big hugs and thanked us for what we made for them.

I can not express in words what a blessing it is for me to make these movies for couples. I thank God that he has allowed me the gifts in art and film to produce these movies for couples.

As Christians, Drew and myself feel that God gives all people gifts, skills, and passions for a very specific purpose. That God gives to us so that we can give to others. It is an overflow of serving because God has served us. I am not sure if this makes sense, but it seems that people all over the world desire to be givers and serve others as we are able. I would submit that this desire is from God. I believe we are made in God's image and that part of what that means is that we act and emulate our creator instinctively. That God has created all people with value and worth which leads us in our business to serve and bless all people as God has blessed us. But service to others is not our end. When we make something like this, we do not desire that the glory would end with us, but be directed to the one who has gifted us to make these movies to bless couples and in the end of the day glorify our creator. The give should always get the glory.

Thanks Dave and Rachel for having us and i hope that you all are blessed in watching this awesome wedding! Enjoy.

We shot this movie in beautiful Santa Cruz, California. Dan and Natalie were so easy going and easy to film. I went to college with Dan and we surfed together time to time.

I think my favorite shot was with the 50 mm as we panned down over the couple with the parking lot in the background. Sounds cheesy, but i loved it.

We got to show this at the end of the night after the reception. It was a blessing to make this movie for Dan and Natalie. Enjoy.

Adrian and Jayne are so in love. Our engagement shoot with them was super fun and their wedding was even better!

The surroundings and natural beauty of Ragged Point, Big Sur, was breath taking. Drew couldn't stop taking time lapse shots of all the amazing cliffs and fog rolling along the mountains. Since we got to know Adrian and Jayne a few weeks before the wedding it made it easy to get shots that really captured their personality. It is really special for me when we are able to simply capture the un-posed character of the bride and groom. Jayne and Adrian were a joy to work with and it blessed us to see and capture their marriage covenant.

Kinetic by Kurt: Rock n' Roll Bike Trainer

A good friend of mine, Scott Peterson, invented the Rock n' Roll Trainer that is unlike any other trainer on the market. So when he approached me about making a promo for his invention I was stoked.

We shot all the footage in about a day using our Mark IIs. Thanks to Tennis Warehouse for letting us use their giant warehouse to shoot the trainer. Special thanks to Scott for cranking on his bike all day for us!

You can find more info on the trainer here

I hope you enjoy it!

Commercial: Scion XD Release Series

Here is a fun one for ya!

We shot this a few months ago in a secret warehouse here in San Luis Obispo before the car was released. I never understood how hard shooting commercials would be, but now I have a whole new respect for the car commercial industry. I salute you.

805 Collective
did the set design for this shoot and oversaw the project. We had the privilege to making the movie magic.

So you should watch this, go to a scion dealer near you, buy a new Scion XD Release Series, and tell them "Cana Video Productions had you at hello".

Enjoy.

Engagement: Adrian and Jayne

Last Wednesday we had our first Wednesday wedding ever! We loved it! This movie is not from their wedding. That is coming soon... We shot this short movie a few weeks ago up at Hearst Beach near Big Sur. The spot was amazing and the couple was even more amazing. They were so fun and natural to shoot. Their love for each other is evident and it is clear that God has brought these two together.

What is fun about this movie is it gives you look into how they met as they share their story throughout the movie. I edited this a bit different than the usual, but I think it works.

Their Preview is coming soon and I hope this holds you over for a bit. Enjoy!

So this was quite an adventure I must say. We showed up at the venue we knew nothing about and as we got looking around before anyone arrived we were getting pretty excited. The estate was covered in huge cottonwood trees as a river ran right next to the well kept gardens that surrounded the ceremony site. I feel like a poet, but it was really cool!

After this we met the land owner and he showed us his gigantic game museum that was kinda amazing!

The wedding itself was so beautiful and Drew and myself had a sweet time capturing the day. This couple was a previous wedding we did down this way and saw the preview movie we made at that previous wedding. Right after the movie finished Jenna came up to me and asked if I was booked for a few weeks later and thankfully I was open! I am so glad that she was at that other wedding and I am even more stoked that we got to make the trek up north to capture this beautiful day!

Preview: Ryan and Emily from Ben Potter & Drew Barefoot on Vimeo.

On Saturday we had the joy and privilege of shooting Ryan and Emily's wedding here in beautiful San Luis Obispo. Throughout the day I could sense the love of Christ in their relationship from beginning to end. When I first saw Ryan show up at the church there was this huge smile on his face and the first thing he told me was how blessed he was to be there and how he had started his day with his brothers in the word of God. It was refreshing and inspiring to see a man like Ryan so stoked on the Lord and seeing that joy in God pouring out into his joy to marry his bride.

The day went by so fast and I was so blessed to have been able to shoot this wedding for Ryan and Emily.

Drew wrote and recorded, once again, an amazing song for me to use.

For some reason I got a lot of complements on the stache tonight, so that was encouraging.

I think the 85mm and me became better friends too!

Drew made a new song for this and I think it work amazingly! That has been one thing that has really been fun this year is having so much original music for our Preview Movies. Drew is such a talented musician and I am blessed to be able to work with him.

Here is a short movie we made for Jose Villa.

When we are shooting a wedding we are always making sure that we stay out of the photographers shots through out the day. So many times at the end of the shoot we have a handful of footage with the photographer in the frame. It is easy to edit out, but in this case we were able to make good use of the shots.

I hope you enjoy this short promo and are able to experience this wedding from a whole new angle.

Preview: Daniel and Laura

Last weekend we got to work for a good friend of mine that I met a few years ago. I met Daniel Wilson at a wedding we were both working at and we really hit it off and became friends from that point on.

So last Saturday we headed out to Daniel's grandparents house outside of Arroyo Grande, CA. It was absolutely beautiful and they had the ceremony in the middle of a private redwood forest that his grandfather planted about 50 years ago. The lighting and the smell and entire environment was absolutely beautiful.

There was one point in the movie and at the wedding that really stuck out to me. When Laura had walked down the isle and was about to be handed off to her soon to be husband, her dad was holding her hand so tight and tears of joy were coming down his cheeks. Then there was this moment at the same point where her dad handed her off to Daniel and I could see the same tears of joy resting on his cheeks. I think this is one of those beautiful moments in a ceremony were you see just how powerful and heavy this is for a loving father to hand off his daughter to be wed. I love how both the father of the bride and Daniel shared such a strong love for Laura. Seeing her hand going from holding her fathers to Daniels was a beautiful picture of this responsibility to love and cherish her had now been entrusted to Daniel.

Things like this happen so fast and it is a blessing to witness it.

So in the end I feel the wedding went super well. We showed this movie that night and it seemed to have really great response. I very much felt the love of these two families and I was so stoked to have been able to be apart of this day.

O and we got to try out some new filming toys, so you will just have to watch to see...

Enjoy.

Destination Wedding: Russel and Aline

Ok here it is!

I am so excited to release this highlights movie that I pieced together on the flight home to the states. Brazil was amazing. It was a miracle that I made it there where originally Drew and myself were booked to go, but "Rush My Travel Visa" seemed to not be able to do their job....

Long Story short, after many problems with our visa agency, I ended up going alone to shoot this wedding. It was like the old days when I used to do weddings alone and would run all over to make sure that all the cameras and angels were good to go once things began. So in the end this wedding went great and I got more than enough awesome footage.

I first met the bride about 3 years ago when I was on a trip with my church visiting some friends in Brazil. On this trip we stopped in at a bible college in Campo Mauro and it was there that I met Aline. So three years latter she shoots me an email that she is engaged and that she wanted me to shoot her wedding. I was so blessed to be apart of their wedding day.

I loved seeing the Brazilian wedding traditions at this wedding as well. My favorite was during the ceremony all the family is surrounding the bride and groom and I felt like it gave us all a very beautiful picture of two families coming together. After the kiss both Aline and Russel greeted and hugged everyone from the opposite family. It was very cool seeing this joining of two families.

Overall I was blessed by this wedding and I really hope that you enjoy not only the beautiful cathedral, but the beauty of two families coming together into one.

Enjoy.
